AAP accuses Maliwal of 'misusing' her position, demands 'impartial' probe into incident
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday demanded the resignation of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal from her Rajya Sabha seat over allegations of misuse of her position and demanded an "impartial" probe into the incident.
Maliwal accused of 'staging' molestation incident
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that Maliwal had "staged" the incident in which she claimed to have been molested by a man in a drunken state on Thursday morning.
Bhardwaj said that the CCTV footage of the incident showed that Maliwal was not molested and that the man was "trying to push her away".
AAP demands 'impartial' probe
The AAP spokesperson demanded an "impartial" probe into the incident and said that Maliwal should resign from her Rajya Sabha seat if she is found guilty.
"We demand an impartial probe into the incident. If Swati Maliwal is found guilty, she should resign from her Rajya Sabha seat," Bhardwaj said.
Maliwal denies allegations
Maliwal has denied the allegations and said that she was "molested" by the man.
"I was molested by a man in a drunken state. I have filed a complaint with the police and I am confident that justice will be done," Maliwal said.
Delhi Police registers FIR
The Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the man accused of molesting Maliwal.
The man, identified as Harish Chandra, has been arrested and is being questioned by the police.
