Early Life and High School Career
Aaron Hernandez was born in Bristol, Connecticut, on November 6, 1989. He attended Bristol Central High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. Hernandez was a star quarterback and wide receiver, leading his team to the state championship game in 2007. He was also a standout basketball player, earning all-state honors as a senior.
College Career
Hernandez committed to the University of Florida to play football. He played for the Gators from 2007 to 2009, winning a national championship in 2008. Hernandez was a versatile player, lining up at tight end, wide receiver, and running back. He finished his college career with 111 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Freshman Season
Hernandez played in all 13 games as a freshman, starting five. He caught 16 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Sophomore Season
Hernandez became a starter in his sophomore season, starting all 14 games. He had 61 receptions for 723 yards and five touchdowns.
Junior Season
Hernandez had his best season as a junior, starting all 14 games. He caught 34 passes for 563 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
NFL Career
Hernandez was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He quickly became a key player for the Patriots, starting 14 games as a rookie. Hernandez had 51 receptions for 563 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.
Hernandez continued to be a productive player for the Patriots in the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He had 79 receptions for 910 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011, and 51 receptions for 563 yards and four touchdowns in 2012.
Legal Troubles and Death
Hernandez was arrested in June 2013 and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. He was convicted of murder in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Hernandez died by suicide in prison in 2017.
