2024 Michigan Wolverines Preseason Wr Analysis New Faces Challenges

2024 Michigan Wolverines Preseason WR Analysis: New Faces & Challenges

Quarterback Room Embraces Change

After a productive 2023 campaign, Michigan is set to enter the 2024 season with an almost entirely new quarterback room.

Cade McNamara, who started the majority of games in 2022 and 2023, has transferred to Iowa.

Backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who started the final five games of the 2023 season, has entered the 2024 NFL Draft.

Enter New Signal-Callers

With both McNamara and McCarthy moving on, the Wolverines will turn to a pair of new quarterbacks to lead the offense in 2024.

Sophomore Alex Orji and freshman Dante Moore are the two frontrunners to replace McCarthy as the starting quarterback.

Orji, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound pro-style quarterback, has impressed the coaching staff with his arm strength and leadership skills.

Moore, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound dual-threat quarterback, is one of the top recruits in the 2023 class.

Impact on Wide Receivers

The quarterback change could have a significant impact on the wide receivers.

McCarthy was known for his ability to make off-schedule plays and extend plays with his legs.

Orji and Moore are more traditional pocket passers, so the wide receivers may need to adjust their routes and timing.

New Faces at Wide Receiver

In addition to the quarterback change, the Wolverines will also have a number of new faces at wide receiver in 2024.

Ronnie Bell, Andrel Anthony, and A.J. Henning are all gone, leaving a void in the receiving corps.

The Wolverines will look to a number of young players to step up and fill those roles, including sophomore Darrius Clemons and freshman Tyler Morris.

Challenges Ahead

The Wolverines will face a number of challenges in 2024, including a tough schedule and a new quarterback.

However, the team has a lot of talent, including a number of experienced players on the offensive line and defense.

If the wide receivers can step up and produce, the Wolverines have the potential to be a contender in the Big Ten in 2024.
