France Pulled Away From in the Second Half
The United States, the most successful team in Olympic men's basketball history, pulled away from France in the second half of Saturday's gold-medal match to secure their fourth consecutive gold medal and their sixth in the last seven Olympiads.
Behind a 27-point performance from Steph Curry, the Americans clinched a thrilling 98-87 victory that concluded the two-week tournament in Paris.
High Scoring First Half
The United States held a 53-43 lead going into the break after a high-scoring first half that saw the United States shoot 60% from the field to take an early double-digit lead.
France would not go away, though, and cut into the lead down the stretch to pull within four points with 10 minutes remaining.
USA Coasts to Gold
However, Curry caught fire, making a series of key baskets to give the United States some breathing room late in the game
Jayson Tatum chipped in 21 points in the win, while Rudy Gobert led the way for France with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The victory gives the United States its 16th gold medal in men's basketball at the Olympics, the most of any country.
