Three people have been killed in an avalanche near the Swiss resort of Zermatt, police said on Tuesday. The victims were a 15-year-old girl from the United States, a 52-year-old man from Switzerland and a 58-year-old man from Germany. Two other people were injured in the avalanche, which happened on Monday afternoon. Police said the victims were part of a group of eight who were skiing off-piste when the avalanche struck. The avalanche risk in the area was high at the time, and police had warned people to stay away from off-piste areas. The accident is the latest in a series of fatal avalanches in the Alps this winter. In January, four people were killed in an avalanche in Austria, and in February, two people were killed in an avalanche in France.
